A journey for mystical and historical experiences
A World Heritage Site in the Kii Mountains with Shugen-do tour guide
In 2024, the "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountains" celebrates the 20th anniversary of the registration as World Heritage Site. The "sacred sites" and "pilgrimage routes" would not have been possible without the "nature of the Kii Mountains" that span the three prefectures of Mie, Nara and Wakayama. The "cultural landscape" formed by these places plays a leading role and makes for important assets unparalleled in the world. Through this tour, you will be accompanied by a tour guide with expertise in mountain ascetism, who narrates the history, culture and the mysteries of nature. Compared to ordinary tourism, this program invites you into mystical experiences and deeper knowledge.

Tamagawa Gorge
The natural beauty of "Tamagawa Gorge" is breathtaking. The verdant and clear-water scenery is attractive for all four seasons. After the bustle of summer camp, the foliage season comes with colored leaves covering the gorge. Visit and have the glorious view season by season, and you feel soothed by the landscape.

Jison-in Temple
Built in 816, the temple is associated with Kobo Daishi(Kukai). Housing the seated Maitreya Bodhisattva statue, designated as national treasure, and dotted with historic architecture, it has a peaceful atmosphere. It is known as the pilgrimage’s starting point and is popular with women who pray for children and safe delivery.
